firefox 3.6.8 hangs/extremely slow in Win 7
When the desktop icon is selected, Firefox is extremely slow coming up. When any icon such as help or add-ons is selected it is very slow to respond. Everything in the browser is frozen for a period of time.

See Firefox Hangs also extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. This is becoming completely unacceptable. My Firefox 3.6.8 just hangs and freezes almost every 4 or 5 minutes. It doesn't matter if there's flash content or not, this version just completely disrupts my regular browsing.
When it freezes, Windows 7's busy icon (spinning circle shows up), then it says "Not Responding" in the title bar, then if I click anywhere the screen fades to grey, and I end up having to wait almost 20 to 30 seconds, every few minutes! I love FF and have my browser customized to my taste with lightweight addons, but this is very frustrating; I will be shifting to Google Chrome until this is fixed.
Not to mention also that my FF is using almost 600MB of memory to slow it down even more. I know it's not my add-ons that are causing this, it's the version itself.
Please fix!!
Arctan, can you confirm you tried all the solutions in the link posted by MJB?
You should also follow the steps in Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems to be sure it is not an add-on causing the problem.
Thanks.

Thanks for your response.
I have tried all the solutions from MJB's post. I have also tried Firefox in Safe Mode. Same problem. With the same add ons, I had no problems 2 versions back... the previous version had the issue of far too much memory usage, but this version 3.6.8 has the memory problem and the incessant hanging/freezing.
fyi, my laptop is dual core, windows 7, w/ 3 gb memory.
This is exactly the problem I have, and It is increasingly getting worse. Used to be it would only fade out and say Not Responding every twenty minutes, now it does it every couple of minutes. I actually only have it happen on Facebook, and haven't noticed it yet elsewhere, but then I really don't go elsewhere often. When I uploaded a new firefox version I thought the problem went away, but no, it just got worse with a vengence after a couple days. I prefer Firefox, but really need to start looking into using a different browser to see if the problem is isolated to just your browser.
OMG THE ABOVE COMPLAINTS ARE FROM A YEAR AGO & STILL NOT FIXED. MUST GO TO ANOTHER BROWSER
