What can I do to stop being automatically forwarded to another web page when entering various web pages?

I will enter a web page and begin reading the information I am looking for. Shortly after entering the page I will be forwarded to another web site that is totally different and not initiated by me. It is often a video site. It has been happening for several weeks and is sporadic in nature. My husband is having a similar problem with Firefox on his computer systems.

The problem I am having is with Ubuntu and Firefox combination. In Windows, Firefox goes to InfoProductKiller.com, but in Ubuntu, on either of two machines, I get forwarded to another website which looks like a sponsored search engine.
