I have good old dial up at home and trying to update firefox is painfully slow, Last time it told me it would be 59 days 12 hours!! It did then do it much faster, about 3 hours but that's still too long!! I have high speed at work and could put the updates on a thumb drive then update my home computers. Is this possible? and if so how? and where do I find the updates?

It would be easier to download the full setup file from http://www.mozilla.com copy the setup file to the thumb drive and run it to install the new version on top of your old version. Installing Firefox this way will not delete any of your Firefox settings/bookmarks.
