How do I minimise the history page so that the website is shown as well when an entry is selected. This happened on my old set up but not on 3-6-12

My old version of Firefox allowed browsing from the history list with a minimised history window. This allowed website or webpage to be shown next to the list. Since upgrading to Firefox 3-6-12 I cannot do this and have to relaunch from the history tab in the toolbar each time. Is there a way round this. I am a novice on these things.

You can open the History in the sidebar: View > Sidebar > History (Ctrl+H)
