I have a program with an HTML based installer having a link to a setup.exe on the intall disk. When I click on the link, a dialog appears showing the name and path of the setup.exe file but only providing buttons to save or cancel.

This is a security feature which helps prevent the spread of viruses. If you want to bypass this security feature you can use an add-on such as RunDownload or OpenDownload.

Thank you. I have installed one of the Add Ons. A couple of times I have had purchase SW that used local web pages for installing components. I am aware of the Security issues.

It might be good to allow configuring the ability to run links based on a pattern match of the url ie. (www.myCompany.com).

If you keep the files in the Download Manager (Tools > Options > Privacy > History: "Remember download history") then you can right-click that file in "Tools > Downloads" and choose Open to open the file once the download has finished and your AV software has scanned the file.
