Using dual boot OS, Windows XP SP3/ Ubuntu 10.04. Same Firefox v3.16.13. In windows, using the view button in the menu toolbar, I can turn off the menu toolbar. Using Ubuntu, the same option isn't available in 'view'. I've used "About:Config" before, but am very careful and document any changes. Any time I need access to menu items, using windows, I simply use alt=_.

Chosen solution

In Firefox 3.6 versions you can only hide the menu bar on Windows and not on Linux. In Firefox 4 current beta versions you can hide the Menu bar and have the grayish Firefox button instead and use F10 to temporarily show the Menu bar, so you will have to wait or give the beta a try.
