When opening a new tab how can I set it so that it opens with my home page (eg google) instead of a blank page?

When opening a new tab while browsing, I'd like that new tab to open with a web page, for example the google search engine or other, instead of a blank page, where I need to do the extra step of going to my homepage before I can continue to browse. Is this possible and how??
