When I have several windows open, and I open a link in a new tab, the tab appears in a different window, and not in the current one. It started when I upgraded to firefox 4, and have not happened in previous versions.

This behavior is not consistent: sometimes the tabs opens in the current window, but sometimes I have to look for the tab in other windows. (the browser is set to not switching to the new tab)

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

In Firefox 4 Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration. Check if there is an update available for your graphics display card driver.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
