Do not have the new awesome after upgrading?
After upgrading to firefox 4.0 nothing seems to have changed at all, I dont have the new awesome bar or any of the additional buttons (see link below for a screenshot).
I am using windows 7 home prem.
Chosen solution
To get the new interface you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.
If you want to move the tab bar to the top, right-click on a toolbar and then click on the "Tabs on Top" entry to select it.

Thanks very much that has resolved it :)
On Firefox 3.6 I could type "BBC" in the awesome bar and it would take me to www.bbc.co.uk automatically, which is where I want to go instead of searching google for BBC like it does now in Firefox 4. How do I stop this from happening? I want to jump straight to a website, not enter the whole url or search for it first!
Thanks, Gary.
The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
- Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the preference keyword.URL, double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name
This has been annoying me for weeks! Was taking me to Bing everytime! Thank you for the instructions!! It worked!!!
