In regards to opening a new tab. Why isn't there an option to have it open to a specific page (i.e. your home setting) rather than a blank page?

Good question. But until there's an answer, there's an add-on.

You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
