A load of obsolete extensions refuse to be removed. What do I need to do?

I have about 17 different extensions that are obsolete in 5.0 and would like to remove them. I click on the "Remove" button and it grays out. But when I leave the extensions manager (even if just to check my plug-ins) and come back, the extensions are no longer grayed out and I have to go through and click on all those remove buttons all over again. What am I missing?? They won't go away!

This can be a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.sqlite, extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is an update.
