firefox se congela y parpadea la ventana

al momento de estar navegando, firefox se queda en ocaciones congelado y al hacer eso , da la leyenda que firefox no reponde , en la barra de titulo, y de repente parpadea, y asi es constantemente hasta que se cierra, y al momento de volver a reiniciarlo dice que el programa esta activo y que se debe de reiniciar el sistema?¿porque pasa esto?

tengo windows 7 home premium,a 64 bits y la version de mozillla que uso, es la actualizacion 5.0 la mas reciente.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
