when I try to log onto fafsa, it says I'm using an incompatible browser, but I DL firefox from their website, even though I already had firefox on my netbook.

Install Portable Firefox 3.6.19 to your hard drive to use at that website, and continue to use your current version of Firefox for all other web sites.
