I have unistalled and reinstalled firefox at least ten times to try and fix this problem but no matter what it will not open with out crashing... a little window pops up and asks for permission to send an email to me from firefox... i haven't received anything at all... I was able to open firfox in safe mode by holding down shift... but when i tried to do anything it still froze, then disappeared and every attempt to restart it in safe mode gives me a widow saying something about firefox is still running and needs to complete its tasks which it never does until i restart my computer... i can't even use task manager to make it stop working. any help you provide would be great... i miss my favourite browser!

In the Windows Task Manager, as you know, there are multiple tabs. If Firefox does not appear on the Applications tab, then check the Processes tab for: firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe (used to run certain plugins separately from the main Firefox process). If you "End Process" on Firefox but it comes back by itself, you may have some malware that is hijacking the browser.

Could you try starting up in Firefox's profile manager and create a new profile? If that works, you can selectively copy over settings (such as bookmarks) from your main profile.

  • First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Hope this helps.
