I have a mac desktop G4 with operating system: 10.4.11 I am running Firefox 3.6.19, Is this the last Firefox software that I can run on my computer system?
Can I upgrade to the latest software upgrade for Firefox and still have it work on my Mac desktop G4?
Chosen solution
Firefox 3.6.22, an updated version from your Firefox 3.6.19, will run on a PPC Mac (G4) with OSX 10.4. Firefox version 4 and higher require an Intel processor and newer versions of OSX.
- Download Firefox 3.6.22 here --> http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
- NOTE: Firefox 3.6.23 is scheduled for release on Tuesday, September 27, 2011.
- See --> Installing Firefox on Mac
There is a third party build based on Firefox 6 to run on PPC Mac systems that you may want to try; it is named TenFourFox.
- Note: Firefox 7 is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, and the developer of TenFourFox will most likely have an update soon afterwards.
- Note: TenFourFox is not supported by this site. Any questions or problems must be addressed to the developer of TenFourFox
- Developer's home page (there have been problems accessing this page, supposedly caused by AT&T, so keep trying): http://www.tenfourfox.com/
- Alternate download site: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37761/tenfourfox

So...all of the FX support people keep recommending TenFourFox. However, us PPC users would like to make sure that you are going to keep supplying security updates to 3.6. Are you?
Firefox 3.6.* security updates may end around February more or less as it will be some 12 weeks after a Extended Support Release is started in November.
Wait...what "extended support release"? Do you mean another version that will run on PowerPC Macs?
Unfortunately no.
Boo to that! There are still many PowerPC users out there. We don't mind using old versions, but a security update for PPC Leopard users isn't too much to ask. Our computers still work fine; we even get the occasional update from Apple. Any chance for extending minimal security updates for PPC 3.6?
I think you are going to direct me to TenFourFox, but a lot of people would like to have a browser they feel safe doing their banking with.
So, there's a plea from one PPC user.
