firefox takes up 3/4 of my page when trying to read my gmail

firefox opens as the desktop. fine. but when i click on my gmail, the firefox desktop continues to eat up three fourths of the screen. it didn't used to do that. in other words I can only see a portion of my email even when I open it.

Does Gmail open only in the left side of the Firefox window? Are you opening Gmail from a bookmark?
