I am having the same problem. I can see them in the iGoogle Gmail widget in Firefox 8.0 and in Chrome, but not in Gmail proper in Firefox 8.0.

I also have a problem where I get an "Unable to load rich text editor" when I click the reply button. I am also running windows 7.

I solved my problem by Updating all subscriptions for AdBlock Plus Go to FireFox upper left

         Add-Ons
         Extensions
         AdBock Plus Options
         Filters
         Update all subscriptions

Open gmail.

With gmail being the active tab,

1. Click the AdBlock Plus icon (Little red stop sign)

2. Choose "Disable for mail . google . com"

3. Problem gone.

My email already had that setting. What worked for me was to update all subscriptions on AdBlock Plus by going to firefox, add-ons, extensions, adblock plus options, filters, update all subscriptions
