When I try to quit Firefox, the open page closes, but the application does not. Must Force Quit to close the application.

I am using a Macbook running 10.6.8 with Firefox version 9.0.1. Recently, when trying to close the Firefox application, the open page disappears, but the application stays open, but is unresponsive. I must force Quit the application at this point. If I try to work in the Menu Bar I get the spinning beach ball until I do the Force Quit. This isn't right and is making me nervous about the reliability of this browser.

Hi swf13245- Is Firefox working ok up until it freezes when you try to close it? I found an article on how to troubleshoot Firefox when it hangs- but this typically is for users who have trouble while using the application as opposed to just when shutting it down:
