Please avoid the negative language; but you do not have to use improper language to get attention to your questions.

If you could give more details on this "Update" maybe we can help resolve the "never ending loop."

But you answer your questions:

When I go to Control Panel in Vista I go to Programs & Features. Here I click uninstall and I get the following. "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" I've clicked No and I've clicked Yes, it still continues to go back to this, "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" I'm trapped in this loop. Please Help.

You will need to boot Windows into Safe Mode.

  • How To | Start your Computer in Safe Mode
    • If the above link does not fully explain how to active safe mode on your computer, please refer to your computers user manual.
    • Be sure to select "Save mode w/o Networking"

After you start your computer in Safe Mode, this should allow you to uninstall Firefox as you want.

    • Starting your computer in Safe Mode will prevent all non-microsoft drivers/utilities from running on boot.

In your Windows \program files\ folder, navigate to the \Mozilla Firefox\ directory, and delete the file firefox.exe.moz-upgrade.

Incidentally, why do you want to uninstall Firefox? If you're having a problem using it, we can try help you.

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder. You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (stores the update history).

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
