Every time I open Firefox, it runs for a few seconds and then closes on its own. I have restarted the computer, ran full system virus scans (found nothing), ran malware/spyware removal programs (found nothing), & I tried running it in safe mode (still closes itself). Firefox doesn't recognize it as a crash & I can't get the Troubleshooting Information or a list of Plugins because it won't stay open long enough. Also there is NO uninstall.exe in the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox' folder, nor is there any option to uninstall directly through the 'Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features'. I hate IE and don't like Chrome so I hope someone can help. Thanks.

Chosen solution

Let's try reinstalling Firefox.

If you open up IE or chrome, and go to www.getfirefox.com, download a Fresh version of Firefox from there. Install it over your old version of Firefox (all your data will be preserved), then restart your PC. Try to start Firefox up in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode (which temporarily disables all extensions and customizations for troubleshooting). Does it work in Safe Mode?

Thank you very much Tyler. That fixed the problems I was having. Though admittedly I'm still concerned as to how the uninstall.exe disappeared in the first place. It's in there now, along with quite a few other .dll files that were missing. I have a data cap, and when it's reached my connection is slower than dial-up. So I was hoping I wouldn't have to download it again, but after dealing with Chrome all day I decided I had enough lol. Thanks again. Hope that helps the other people having this issue.

...and I didn't think it would be as simple as re-installing it either. Glad it wasn't some long complicated procedure though.

i have this same problem(i use windows 7), i fresh installed and it still doesnt work, it also does this on my dads computer (vista). i even reverted to previous versions to check and see if that would work and it works great with firefox 7.0.1 and that puzzles me. i really need firefox for schoolwork and my dad needs it for work. we have both tried re-installing and no luck yet....i wish i could at least keep it open to see the error console. (oh, and ive already tried safe mode)
