Why won't Firefox v14.0.1 (Windows 7 Professional) load certain Tumblr.com "Archive" web pages, but IE8 and Opera v11.61 will load them?

Firefox will *sometimes* load Tumblr.com "Archive" web pages and it always seems to load Tumblr.com "Home" pages. A couple of months ago, Firefox would load ALL pages with no problems. Then, with Firefox 13, I started to have some problems, so I upgraded to Firefox 14, but the problems continue.

Certain Tumblr.com "Archive" pages will NOT load. It starts with "25.media.tumblr.com" and seems to hang up on "in.admedia.com" and then indicates "Done" on the status bar. This has only started being this bad over the last few weeks.

Chosen solution

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I am going by my gut feeling - could be an Adobe Flash problem-

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox 13 are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.

In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:

Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems

Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox
