I am using firefox 14.0.1 on Linux Mint 12 (Mate desktop). I have never had any difficulty of this sort, and I have been using firefox for years. Always when I opened, the page was maximised. If it was not, I could maximise it, close it, and it would start again as I wished. Recently I had to reinstall the operating system, including firefox, and now for the life of me I can't get it to open in maximised form. I have followed every instruction I can find on the web, uninstalled, and re-installed, set up a new profile, and nothing works.

Did you check for problems caused by extensions?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can also check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Thank you very much Cor-el. I have checked the add-ons and extensions a couple of times as you suggest, but I'll have another go this morning to see if I have better luck.

Several hours later. I deleted everyting I could think of connected with firefox, then reinstalled and downloaded a minimum of add-ons. That seemed to do the job, which is a huge relief. I was getting ready to change browsers.
