How do I get rid of mystart.incredibar.com?
Picked up this useless search bar accidentally and can't get rid of it. Blocking the url with Avast just prevents Firefox from opening. Can't find a program with this name to delete. Plugin does not appear in Add-ons file. Any suggestions that work would be most helpful.
Thanks in advance, BAB

Eliminating mystart.incredibar.com from Firefox instructions can be found here: http://www.im-infected.com/hijacker/mystart-by-incredibar-mystart-incredibar-com.html.
In summary, check IE to see if the annoying incredibar is also showing up there as the default browser. If so, you need to delete mystart.incredibar from the Add/Remove function and the registry. Read the above reference first, especially if you don't know much about the registry (which is my cirmcumstance.
If, however, Firefox is the only browser affected, open Firefox and type about:config in the address bar. Click on yes I'll be careful. In the Search field type "mystart". A list will open below; right click on each line in the list and push Reset. Then add ".incredibar" in the search field. Repeat resetting each item in the list. Then add ".com" in the search field and repeat. Then remove the "mystart.incredibar.com" from the search field and type "incredibar", and reset each line in the list. Sneaky little bastard, isn't it?
Then check your extensions for something new and/or suspicious.
Restart Firefox (I also restarted the computer) and mystart.incredibar should be no more. You may have to reselect your preferred search engine. If the above doesn't work, try eliminating the spyware with Malwarebytes, or similar. SpyBot found the incredibar but couldn't remove it from Firefox.
Best of luck, BAB

Uninstall it from Add/Remove - Control Panel
Good idea. Unfortunately, this is a malware product and does not appear in All Programs, nor on the Add/Remove panel.
Thanks anyway, though, BAB

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
- From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select Add-ons, or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the Tools menu and click Add-ons.
- Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the Extensions button on the left side of the window.
- You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
- To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
- Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the Restart now link in the message.

Thank you for your response. I had already done as you suggested. The incr>> virus is much mor complicated than that. It requires changing registry entries and another user sent me instructions for that and it worked. Thanks for the response.
Incredibar seems to be making a comeback. Glad to help remove this junk.
