I've tried turning off all addons, and the Firefox Start Page still just shows the search in the middle of the screen with the Firefox logo above it, the few options shortcuts at the bottom, but no tiles.

hello Kaldari, only the new tab page does show thumbnails of your frequently visited site at the moment - the default start page that you're probably observing has a search box & a few quick-access buttons for bookmarks, history, etc. at the bottom....

if you also want to show the new tab page at startup, go to firefox > options > general & set about:newtab as your custom home page.
