Tab Groups isn't responding, locks me into one Group

more options

Normally I am very happy with Firefox, but since the Nightly Update yesterday the option to tab groups doesn't work anymore. Every time I try to access my other groups Nightly stops responding. It doesn't really crash, so I can't file a report over that screen, but it stands still for a minute or so and than doesn't go to the group screen, it just stays where I am, though I can at least click things again inside the group I am in. It tells me that a script stopped replying, if I even get any reaction at all. The Tab Groups are one of the things I love the most about Firefox and I heavily rely on them. I would highly appreciate it if someone had an idea of how to fix this, as I can't get to any of my tabs in other groups...

Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

I have experienced this too (though in firefox 19). As a workaround (note that this is when using the Session Manager addon) I create a new window, then go to Tools -> Session Manager -> Backup Session and restore a session. It would seem that in the new window, tab gorups work normally.

Thanks for the workaround, cubethethird. I can't get Firefox to start in safe mode, but I had Session Manager installed, so using the workaround was a snap.

Glad it helped. After poking around, it seems (for me) the problem is caused by Tile Tabs addon, and disabling this restores the normal functionality. According to the developer of said addon, this problem is to be fixed with the next update, though this was expected to be released weeks ago, and has yet to occur.
