Firefox 18 (latest update) freezes every time I open Facebook.com. I am using a Macbook Pro (Mac )S X version 10.6.8. I already tried resetting Firefox, clearing my cache and cookies, removing and re-installing Firefox, and logging out of Facebook Chat. None of those have worked.

I'm not very computer savvy, so if anyone can provide me with a solution or help me downgrade to Firefox 17, that would be great.

In the Firefox Location bar, type about:crashes and hit Return. A page listing submitted crash reports will appear and then please provide us with the crash ids.

Thank You!

I am using OS 10.7.5 and have the same problem with Firefox 18. I downloaded Firefox 17.1 and it worked fine - then Firefox did an automatic update. Worked for a few hours, then started crashing again. Did some research and read that FB Chat could be causing the problem, but I did not have that open. I had reports sent every time it crashed.

I have same (or very similar) issue. After I installed firefox v18, my facebook home page freezes and I have to manually kill firefox. I have Mac OS 10.8.2 and my firefox got a few add-ons, but even when disabling all my add-ons, it is doing the same freezing behavior. Only on the facebook "home" page though (main news feed), not on my facebook personal profile. When it freezes, the mouse gets into the "working" spiral mode, but firefox is unresponsive. I haven't found any other website that causes the same issue. Only facebook home page (news feed). I tried deleting all the cache, all history, all cookies. I even tried to uninstall firefox and reinstall it. I have rebooted the machine. It's killing me now..

my crash id is: bp-c64398c1-f09a-4070-8157-088912130113

I have already tried resetting Firefox and tried the other solutions as well. Nothing works.

mfregeau (post above) summarizes the exact problem precisely. The only solution Mozilla suggests that HAS worked so far is using a different browser altogether.

Hi mfregeau,

This could be a problem with a plugin or the plugin-container process.

I didn't have any plugins enabled when I tried troubleshooting.

I also have the same problem. Log onto facebook and FF 18 freezes up. Tried everything mentioned above and no solution. There is something wrong here,

Can I go back to FF 17?

I have also had the same problem with FF 18 on Mac OS X 10.8.2. The only thing that works for me is disabling Javascript, but that trashes the functionality of Facebook. Resetting Firefox preferences does not help. Disabling plugins does not help. Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox does not help.

Until Mozilla addresses and fixes this issue, I will be using FF 17. If you are wondering how to do this, Google old versions of firefox. You'll be looking for one of the top results (it's a website devoted to old versions of apps for Windows and Mac, you can't miss it, but make sure you're on the Mac portion of the website). To disable automatic updates, open Firefox, go to the Firefox menu (top left), go to Preferences, the Advanced tab, the Update tab in the Advanced menu, and then turn off automatic updates. Please do remember that if you choose to go this route, you could be putting yourself at risk by using an older version of the browser which may not contain certain security fixes. Use at your own risk.
