I download firefox to my mac mini but it cannot be opened to install. what can I do?

I have a new Mac Mini with OSX 10.8.2 intel i5 processor and 4 GB mem. After download I try to install the firefox and get the message: "The following disk images couldn't be opened: firefox 18.0.2.dmg reason not be recognized. "

I downloaded 4 separate times with the same result. One time I rebooted the mac before trying to open the new download. I called Apple for help but they seemed to have no solution.

Try to repair the disk permissions:
