Firefox won't play the .ogg files on wikipedia
For as long as I've had Firefox it has never been able to play .ogg files like the files on Wikipedia. I am using Firefox 19.0.2 on windows vista. I've tried disabling all of my add-on including no-script and ad-block pro but nothing help. .ogg files play both on Chrome and Internet explorer so I don't know whats wrong.

there may be some pulugins missing in your browser install missing plugins update plugins
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Okay, so I've updated all my plugins in and download someone plugins that I didn't have before like VLC and it still doesn't work. I've tried disabling QuickTime as in the applications tab in the options it was trying to play the .ogg files but it wouldn't play them. When I set them to be played by the VLC plugins that didn't work either.
which version of flash player you are using?
I am using version 11.6.602.180 of Shockwave Flash. I've update my system details as well.
latempe: probably .ogg files are not supported with this version of firefox.

I'm using Firefox 19.0.2 which version should I be using?
Can you post a link to such a wikipedia page?
Ogg files (HTML5 video) should work in Firefox 3.5 and later, so the version shouldn't be an issue.
Are there any messages in Help > Troubleshooting Information in the Graphics section?

This may be caused by this pref:
- plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types: application/pdf,application/x-ogg,application/ogg
Try to remove the others and possibly only keep application/pdf or set to an empty string.
I also notice that the disk cache is disabled.
- browser.cache.disk.capacity: 0
This can be caused by using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the Cache.
- Tools > Options > Privacy: History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
Fixed the browser.cache.disk.capacity and modified the string. I test it it both as an empty string and having application/pdf as the only thing in the string and neither of them worked.
check pdf In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
- Go to Tools > Options (or Firefox > Options).
- In the Options window, select the Applications tab.
- In the Search field, type PDF. You should find Portable Document Format (PDF).
- On the right handside you should find an Action column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose Preview in Firefox.
Does an ogg file play if you paste the URL directly in the location bar?
Nope, the ogg file doesn't play when pasted into the URL.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Does it help if disable other plugins? Tools > Page Info > General
You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.
Your troubleshooting information shows:
plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types application/pdf,application/x-ogg,application/ogg
EDIT: I see you already tried modifying this preference value but you can also try the following:
You can either reset all Firefox preferences - see Reset Firefox preferences to troubleshoot and fix problems (Solution 2) - or, you can reset the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types preference in about:config as follows:
- In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
- Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
- Search for the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types preference
- Right-click on it and select "Reset"
If neither works, try deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed, which will restore the default actions for content types.

P.S. Re-reading this thread, I see that cor-el suggested, Does it help if disable other plugins?. I agree that you should also try disabling other plugins in the Firefox Add-ons -> Plugins list that may be conflicting with ogg content, such as the VLC Media Player plugin, as suggested in the Fix common audio and video issues article.
For more help, see this Troubleshooting plugins article.
