Some sort of toolbar has installed itself called Foxstart. I assume that it is part of FireFox.

I want to get rid of it. It keeps changing my homepage even when I reset it in Tools/Options... It doesn't show up in Contol Panel/Programs. A hard disk search doesn't show up a file with the name foxstart.* A regedit search doesn't show up any foxstart entry. I have uninstalled FireFox, rebooted and reinstatalled FF but it is still there.

How can I get rid of this really irritating unwanted toolbar?

I've looked at some past threads on Foxstart, and it seemed it wasn't a toolbar that appeared up in the toolbar area, but instead was some kind of search service. Does that describe what you're seeing?

Is there more to clean up?

If there's a toolbar up in the toolbar area, could you post a screen shot showing what it looks like? This article might help: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Oh... you also are running an old version of Firefox. Due to security flaws in old versions, you may be vulnerable to unexpected and unwanted changes in Firefox and on your system. Is there any reason you cannot update to the current version?

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

Please Update to the latest Firefox 19.0.x version.

The Firefox Firefox 16.0.2 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates

Also check if there are plugins that need to be updated.
