When going to some websites I see my bookmarks showing in status before page loads

On certain websites I get a load slowness. If I look at the status bar I see some of my bookmark toolbar site URL showing before the page I actually typed in to see. Status bar doesn't show actual site I wanted to go to. I deleted the favorite toolbar buttons and site loads fine.

This doesn't happen on all major sites, and not all the time.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Hi zylcho, I've got a theory.

Where is the mouse pointer after you enter the URL and either press Enter or click the Go button? If you let your mouse pointer hover over a regular bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar (i.e., not a folder), after a delay of a second or two, the URL will appear near the status bar. This is similar to what happens when you hover over a link in a page and at least once a week I see one of those down in that area and can't understand why Firefox is loading that site. Of course, it isn't loading that site, it's showing me the address of the link under the mouse pointer.

Normally, you and I do not notice this behavior because Firefox immediately starts displaying Waiting/Read messages in that same space. When the page is slow to load, that seems to allow time for the mouseover information to appear.

So that's the experiment: If you avoid letting the mouse pointer rest over the Bookmarks Toolbar, or any other link, do the unexpected displays go away?

jscher2000 Howdie right back at cha,

Very aware of the mouse pointer hovering. Usually on blank page in middle somewhere. The funny thing is that if I go from yahoo etc, the screen goes white. Get the circle in the new tab with connecting...

Considering I am on a 100mb connection with a state of the art rig, my webpages load faster than I can click. I believe it has to be an exploit. Or something is trying to do something that my security is denying hence the delay and possible time out fail.

Thats my theory. :P

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

If you suspect malware, there's a pretty comprehensive list of security scanning tools in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/957238#answer-429283

Page loading delays are not always for obvious reasons. In another thread, a user reported up to a 3 minute delay in loading some sites. Turns out these sites used custom fonts and the user had about 12,000 installed fonts. Not sure what Firefox was doing during those three minutes, but blocking custom font downloads resolved the issue.

iamjayakumars forgot about the reset, performed and we will see. Thank you for the reminder.

iamjayakumars I do dabble with questionable material and do multiple in and out of OS scans every night. I was on a fresh restart when I noticed the long 5 second freeze. MyBB I think is where the problem is coming from. I will inquire there as well. Thank you for the assistance.

Gentlemen have a nice day... unless i get some video :) Thank you for your time.
