It doen't matter if I choose to click "Continue" or "Stop script", Firefox keeps hanging and after a little while the message reappears.

Everything should be updated to the latest version and I've got Avast (free version) as antivirus.

I've tried to start Firefox in Safe Mode to troubleshoot but when Firefox restarts, my theme and everything is on as always and looks exactly like before (and I have made some minor changes like what to see in my toolbar etc.) so I'm not even sure that it has started in Safe Mode at all?

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

If you do not get the Safe Mode start window then make sure that all Firefox instances are closed.

I've been doing it via the third option and I choose "start in safe mode" just as it says I should do on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode. Firefox restarts but everything looks like normal with my chosen theme and everything (and the first time I did it the error message appeared again...).
