In Firefox 23.0.1, my Bookmarks Toolbar has been emptied !? All new bookmarks remain invisible. Even after hiding the bar, then re-enabling it. Tried to restore the bar to an old day, still empty.

What should I do? Completely reinstall Firefox ? I'd like to preserve all my settings.

Thank you

hello, you might want to try to restore the default toolbar set: Navigation buttons like back, home, bookmarks and reload are missing

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • Firefox menu button > Options
  • View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup

Hi Philipp, Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I seem stuck in this situation: I tried many things: - the Toolbar default Reset, - even uninstall then reinstall Firefox

Nothing changes: the bookmarks toolbar appears empty, AND: I cannot add a new one Even clicking on the "star" right to the URL is not operational.

The fact is I keep my "personal settings" (like History, etc.) and it seems to keep as well the corrupted part.

I'm lost and don't know where to seek... :-(

Thank you for your support again.

Did you check for problems with the localstore.rdf file and tried to delete this file?

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
