When I click to download or view a file I get the following error; This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

That is an error message from the server that is send instead of the requested file.
It looks from this error that you do not have permission to access this file.

You can also check the connection settings to make sure that you aren't using a proxy.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

Could it be, that the file to be downloaded does not adhere to the XML specifications? i.e. it may be called XML - but it is not.

the file is a pdf, no XML references....
