Today when I opened a new tab instead of a blank page (I set this up), it opened with a search engine. I think it was bing. How do I keep this from happening?
I want the settings I've set to remain. Lately, the search engine also changes from google to other ones. The other day it was Amazon. It's very frustrating when this happens. I'd like to know how to "freeze" the current settings so they can't be changed unless I want them to. It's very scary to think that somehow my settings change without my knowledge.

Also you can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

It may be possible you have more than one webpages set as your homepage.
To Set a single website as your home page:
1. Open the website you want to set as your home page. If you want a blank home page, open a new tab
2. Click the icon to the left of the web address, drag it to the Home button, and release.
3. Click Yes to set this as your home page.
Click the Home button and your new home page will load in the current tab. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
