Why can't I delete this box full of Firefox control icons from my toolbar?

I don't know where it came from, but there is a box full of what appear to be Firefox control icons over to the right of my Google search field on the toolbar. There are two rows; on the top row, they are all greyed-out, if looks like 'back', 'forward', 'reload page', 'cancel', 'downloads', and so on (they're icons, not words, but I think that's what they correspond to). On the bottom row, there's one like a clock, and one like 'favorites', those are in white. Clicking on any of this stuff does nothing, and if I double-click and hit 'customize', the whole box behaves as a single object, but I can't delete it.

I'd be happy to add a screen shot, but I don't know how. I looked around the Mozilla pages and the internet, but I don't see anything like this. Sorry! Thanks!

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
