When I use the bookmark function, it no longer appears on my bookmarks except on the 'recent bookmarks' tag.
My bookmarks are no longer displaying in the bookmarks, or folders there. The only place they appear is in the 'recent bookmarks' folder. Then I have to manually put them where they should have appeared in the first place.

When you click the star icon in the address bar, a bookmark is created in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder, which may appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu, Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b opens and closes it) and at the bottom of the left pane in the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or Show All Bookmarks).
If you are double-clicking the star or using Ctrl+d and choosing a specific place for the bookmark to be saved, where is that?
When the Bookmark Menu becomes longer than the height of the screen, Firefox doesn't display a scroll bar, but there are tiny triangles at the top and bottom you can hover over to scroll the list. If you are running into that, it might be time to file some of the less used bookmarks in folders. The Library dialog is handy for that (Ctrl+Shift+b or Show All Bookmarks).
Does any of that help?
I'm sorry, but no that doesn't help. I know about the scrolling and I already have folders. The problem is that no bookmarks appear at the end of the bookmark display, nor in the folders I indicate for the bookmark to go into. The only place it appears is in the recently bookmarked folder. This just started happening 2 days ago. I was hoping that it would sort itself out, but it has not. The bookmarks just are not being put on the menu nor in the folders that I designate.
One possibility is that the database which stores your history and bookmarks (places.sqlite) may have become corrupted. This post has recommendations for checking on that: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/970859#answer-478067
Another possibility is that a file which stores user interface customizations (e.g., toolbar layouts, window sizes) has become corrupted. You can rename the file and customize from scratch.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. Hopefully now menus will work normally.
If that doesn't help, you can reverse the process (exit Firefox, delete the newly created localstore.rdf, rename localstore.old to localstore.rdf).
For some reason my bookmarks are now appearing where they should. I have done nothing to change this so it may have been a glitch somewhere. I am saving your last reply in case this happens again so that I can try it.
I want to thank you for all your time and attention on this.
