on the create an account page I was able to type in a password. That is the only place that the keyboard has worked. Not even ^V (control V) works I have to type everything elsewhere copy then come back here and use the edit menu This problem only happens with TOR, not with regular firefox

your 'educated guess' was windows??? For a tor user? Seriously?

For some reason, the site is detecting your user agent as Windows 7. Perhaps this is a disinformation feature of your browser or one of your add-ons.

Speaking of add-ons, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

This did not solve the problem. Please remember that the problem is ONLY with TOR, not with firefox. The two are related, but not the same. I am typing this in a firefox browswer which is my default when I click on something that has a link in it.

as when I clicked on this: If this doesn't solve your problem, let jscher2000 know by replying on the website.

Note that the Firefox TOR version comes with its own Firefox version (probably ESR based).

Does the clipboard work at all?

Can you copy something to the clipboard and paste it in another program?

Does Shift+Insert work to paste?

Use keyboard shortcuts if the buttons on the web page or other methods aren't working.

  • Copy: Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert (Mac: Command + C)
  • Paste: Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert (Mac: Command + V)
  • Cut: Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete (Mac: Command + X)

This is a Firefox support site and I don't use the TOR browser. If you think the TOR variant is too different for standard troubleshooting, perhaps you can find a support site specific to its idiosyncrasies.

I hate to be snarky but as I believe I first stated I had to paste using the menu. I also said that Ctrl V does not work. Specificially I said: Not even ^V (control V) works

Not surprisingly cut and copy also do not work. I can do those things from the menu. Let me say again. (Oh yes, I have been doing software for about 30 years, and started on the internet using Mosaic. I have written programs in assembler. I understand testing, and checking likely as well as some unlikely alternatives.) The keyboard does NOT work in any manner in TOR. This did not begin to happen until I updated Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 Maybe that will help. On the other hand, this firefox that I am using right now works fine,

Well, I have downloaded TOR (tor-browser-linux32-3.5.2_de.tar.xz) /from this website: https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en And extracted the files to my desktop. My notebook uses

Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy),

GNOME 3.8.4, Kernel 3.11.0-15-generic. I have not passed any software installation routine by now. (maybe that's the problem) I start the TOR software by the Shell-Skript (application/x-shellscript) file

start-tor-browser 7,0 kB (7.021 Bytes). It seems to start without problems to be seen.

TOR bundle uses the Firerfox ERS 24.3 Oesrpre version. I can only navigate with the cursor with the "mouse". Entry with the physical keyboard or virtual keyboard will not appear in the browser. Paste from the clipboard is possible with the right mouse button.
