Whenever I try opening Firefox, it keeps saying "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

Some weird stuff happened. Firefox and Google Chrome merged into one or something like that happened. I tried going on Firefox after that but it kept repeating that message. I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and Chrome is now fine, but for Firefox I uninstalled and reinstalled it about 2 times. After the 2nd time, it started working... for 5 minutes. Then the same stuff happened again.

This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 is no longer present on the hard drive.

  • Windows: "%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\"
  • Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
  • Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
  • Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
  • Use "Choose Folder" to recover an existing profile if there is still one present
