A second tab pops up every time I open a new window; how do I keep this from happening?

more options

Every time I open a new window a second "Apps page" (for lack of a better term) tab appears with it. I have tried changing the Home page to nothing, setting "When starting Firefox" to Show Blank Page and messing with other options. Nothing has worked to this point. The page that appears has no address in the bar so I assumed it is a Firefox page.

Try go to about:config search for browser.startup.homepage change its value to:

about:home - default page
about:blank - blank page
url - a page that you want
