I have pick up a virus/ad wear Called SmartSuggestor". It hijacks the page I'm on and directs to some ad. The salutation was to go to the Add Ones, then Extensions and remove it there. Problem is it's not listed there. I have ran Malwear, CC Cleaner, Kilepshy, TDD Killer noting has removed it. I have an online tech support and they could not even find it.

This program is driving me nuts. Can anyone help?

Mike,

SmartSuggestor is a type of adware that hooks onto your computer like a virus and can be quite annoying.

There's a few things you can do to get rid of this.

  1. Can you press the Windows key then typing Programs and Features at the Metro start, then finding SmartSuggestor in your Add/Remove programs window and uninstall it, if it's there
  2. You will want to get ADWCleaner to scan your pc and remove this after its done scanning.
  3. You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
  1. Can you post your troubleshooting information here? Simply navigate to about:support in Firefox, then click copy raw data to clipboard then paste it here.
  2. If all else fails, you can do a reset of Firefox. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
