I am currently running win xp pro sp3 and looking to switch to ubuntu 12.04.

How can I create a common profile for firefox so that any changes in a windows profile are available to linux profile and 'vise-a-versa'.

Hardware is p4 dual core processor running at 2.8 gig with 2 gig of ram.

I imagine it may be possible to have a profile that could be used by both Firefox on Windows XP and Ubuntu in a dual booting system. I have had a few systems dual booting Windows and Linux but have never actually tried that.

More normally all that is often done is to backup a profile and use that to transfer files as is necessary. Possibly also consider Firefox sync if two devices are run, or the new Firefox accounts from Fx 29.

That is not recommended because the compatibility.ini file stores the path to the Firefox version that last used the profile that will cause the Firefox profile folder to get initialized with every change.
There are also path differences between Windows and Linux and you are likely to run into problems.
You could try to create a hard link or a soft link to some sqlite database files and test if that works.
