I click on the Firefox icon, the program comes up and I use it. If I go out of Firefox to perform other tasks, then come back and click on the icon, Firefox does not respond. I have to close and reboot Windows to get Firefox to respond to clicking the icon. It's "once and done"!

What is your computer system and Firefox?

You are saying when Firefox is dropped to the computers Task Bar, it stops responding?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Drop the Firefox window. Wait for a time. Then try it.

Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Right click on it, and select Open New Window. Sometimes this works. If it opens, close it by Menu > File > Exit.

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866 {web link}

Use "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button) (Windows: File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

You can check in the Windows Task Manager if there are still Firefox processes present and if that is the case then kill these processes.
