Unable to add the same bookmark to different folders
I recently got a new pc and successfully imported my bookmarks. Today, I was cleaning up the bookmarks, as not all would display the favicon. While doing that, I ran into a problem. I have some favorite sites that I like to keep in more than 1 folder. When I clicked on the "star" to bookmark, it sensed it already had it, and suggested that folder. But then I'd browse to save it in a different folder.
I did this several times, before realizing that it was actually moving the bookmark from the original folder to the new folder!
The only way I could find to keep a bookmark in 2 folders was to do so in SHOW ALL BOOKMARKS. There, I had to do a "copy & paste" to the new folder.
Why can't I do so when just clicking on the "star" and selecting a different folder? FF should at least warn me that it's a duplicate and tell me it can't be done in that popup.
Do you know how to put the same bookmark in a different folder using the "star"?
thank you pizazz

You can do a copy and paste to have more than one occurrence of this bookmark. You can do that in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Show All Bookmarks) or on the sidebar. In the sidebar you need to click at the far left to avoid opening the link.

I think there is an add-on that can help you, but I don't know what one.
Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

Hello, cor-el. After I'd posted the question, I remembered that I was able to do it on my old pc. And that I never had a problem with it before. I'd almost always done it while on a web page, not in bookmarks manager.
I can't believe that I forgot how to do it. Thank you for reminding me how to do it in the sidebar! pizazz
You're welcome.
Note that you can drag the globe/padlock to a bookmarks folder to create a duplicate if you have the page open in a tab.
Thanks for the tip. Just tried it. Though, I didn't see the globe/padlock. So, I just dragged the favicon of the website down into my bookmarks folder. It worked. Actually, you can do it both in a Tab and in a new window. cor-el, you're a font of knowledge.
None of these answers fix the problem. This problem is ridiculous.
Firefox deletes my bookmarks in a different folder when I create the same bookmark in a new folder. This is terrible behavior from a web browser and needs to be fixed ASAP.
These "work-a-rounds" are not a fix at all and are time consuming and a pain in the bleep.
This needs to be fixed! Why don't they just fix this? Why force users to do time consuming work a rounds?
I will decide where I want to duplicate bookmarks thank you very much, a browser that DELETES BOOKMARKS without warning is a BAD BROWSER, end of story.
Fix it please! There is no excuse for this bug to still be in the code. It is a huge bug, or huge error, whatever you want to call it.

You will notice that the title of the drop down doorhanger changes to "Edit This Bookmark" to make you aware that you already have bookmarked this URL and that you are about to make changes and you will see the current location (folder). If there are copies then you see "Remove # Bookmarks" as the label of the Remove button. This is not a matter of deleting the bookmark (it will still be there, but you changed its location). You can't click the star or use "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D) to make a copy of a bookmark. You can only make a copy by dragging the globe/padlock to a folder or via the right-click context menu (Copy/Paste).
