Why is my Thunderbird e-Mail so slow?

I checked with Hughesnet my server and I verified they have no problem but for the past couple of weeks T-Bird is slow as Xmas be it sending, receiving or when I send a message it takes a minute or so for the message to be copied to my sent folder. Selecting any options on the toolbar is slow T-Bird used to be a speed demon ? any ideas ?

Using one scenario would be when it is sending smtp shows up and never did before and takes longer just to send the message and it takes much longer for it to post what I just sent to the sent folder. Thank You.
