I have refreshed Firefox twice and have created a new profile each time, but I find that the program frequently won´t open. It appears in the process list once or as many times as I try to open it. If I stop the process and try again, it still won´t open. How can I fix this?

Actually, I've created several profiles. Each time Firefox seems to work fine for a few days, but then this issue happens, and I can´t open FF at all.

Never heard of portable apps. What is it? If it matters, I´m using a desktop.

Hi, if it's ONLY Firefox, try a Clean Reinstall; this means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location. With Firefox closed, use another browser to download Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and save the file to somewhere convenient on your computer.

Now delete the Firefox installation folder which should be in one of the following locations -

Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.

You can now double click the file you previously downloaded to install Firefox.

If other browsers are affected, or if the above doesn't help, you can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us, Thank you!

portableapps is a collection of programs that were originally designed to work off of usb drives, basically allowing you to take your favorite programs everywhere your usb drive goes. they have the benefit of not requiring install rights or write access to the local hdd, as they run entirely off their own settings and profiles. they can of course be used off of any non usb storage as well, i use it a lot for trouble shooting, because i can be sure to work off a stable constant baseline. just google portableapps firefox.

that sounds like either you doing something to your firefox (possibly by regularly visiting a site that somehow breaks it), or something else is corrupting your install, some cleanup utilities (TuneUp) and antivirus/malware sometimes do this.

I suggest you do a full clean reinstall as Scribe suggested above.
