After Quantum upgrade - when accessing Word Document list in toolbar - get error message "Item you selected is no longer available. It might have been moved, renamed, or removed. Do you want to remove it from the list? Yes - No ?? " Doesn't matter which Word Doc in the list - same error message - Can still find the Word Document by going all the way back to Documents - Word - etc and can bring it up - however - even after bringing doc back to life - should still be in list in toolbar Get same message - "item you selected is no longer available"

jscher2000 - TA-DA - bring up the jump list - right click - open - get the same error message . . . . "unavailable" - HOWEVER - GUESS WHAT ??? When I bring up the jump list - pick any one of the docs and click on EDIT - the document comes up !! Not quite as elegant - but works - does the same thing - and same key strokes to get there !! For some reason never thought of doing that until you mentioned the open trick - Will use that for now - maybe some day down the road will upgrade to MS 2018 or whatever and problem will resolve itself - For now - using EDIT - consider it fixed - sort of Thank you for offering that solution - . . . . sometimes the simplest things . . .

Do you mean the downloads list, or a different list?

The list that drops from the Download arrow only shows the latest downloads, and you can use the "Show All Downloads" button (or Ctrl+j) to open the Library window to view the list of earlier downloads. Is that the problem, that the downloads list no longer connects to the current location of the downloaded Word documents?

I can't think of a reason that a Firefox update would keep the downloads list but mangle the paths on disk.

Have you tried shutting down Windows and starting it up again since this problem began? Just in case some interface with Windows is not working correctly or Firefox does not have its usual permissions.

jscher2000 -

Thanks for the response - I'm a little technically challenged - so here goes - on the bottom of the screen (toolbar?) are the icons for the various programs I use - Firefox -Microsoft Excel - MS Word -(version 2007 - old !!) Prior to Quantum upgrade yesterday - I could click on the Word Icon and it would bring up the last 10 Word Docs - I could then select each one and open that doc from the list - Now - today - I can bring up the list - but when I select any one of the items and try to open it - I get the "Item you have selected is unavailable" msg. I can retrieve the doc by going all the way back to File Explorer - drilling down to my documents - and finding it - but when I try to retrieve it from the Tool bar menu once again I get the same error msg - So far only happens with Word - not Excel -

What your describing is confusing I got office 2016 but did have Office 07 in the past and if you "right click" on the icon you get the past opened office doc related to what was opened. What I don't get is how a FF is a Office issue when opening a Word Doc. Those are two separate software and one doesn't control the other. What seems likely is you have a Office problem related to itself but posting Office issue on a Mozilla Browser forum that doesn't provide Office Support. That would be best directed to a MS forum site that deals with Office software issues.

Hmm, the "jump list" for Word should not have been affected by updating Firefox. I'm assuming that's a coincidence. ?!

I don't know whether there is a way to regenerate that list so it can link correctly, or whether you will have to let Word rebuild it over time as you re-open previous documents.

Does Word's internal list still work? In Word 2007, if you click the Office button in the upper left hand corner of the ribbon, there should be a "Recent Documents" list on the menu. Can those items still open files from their earlier locations?

Should be an MS issue - however - "jump list" worked yesterday - up until upgraded to Quantum - then bang - not after that ?? And now even when I open another Word Doc - then it goes to the list - when I click on it to revive it - I get the same error - item you selected is unavailable - - so I can't "repopulate" the list - The internal list - recent documents still works - and can bring up those without an issue - but the so-called "jump-list" off of the Toolbar - won't allow me to access the document from there - ???? Still nutsy as to what Quantum would have to do with all this - but like the man says . . . . "Worked before . . . . ."

I can't explain what's going on with the jump list. The fact that it is only Word makes me think there may be a corrupted file. However, please try this: right-click an item on the jump list and choose Open. That worked for the user in this thread (unsolved): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_word-mso_win10-mso_2016/the-item-you-selected-is-unavailable-it-may-have/0b64c45e-73df-4d3b-8144-5c2e44c621d3 If that works, then the jump list contains the correct location, but for some reason, simply clicking doesn't do what it used to do.
