Hi. When i visit the Google News page for the first time after launching Firefox, it is unusually slow to load. It takes about 6 seconds. Normally this page loads in 1-2 seconds with all other browsers (IE11, Chrome, Edge etc) on their first encounter of the page. If I visit the page a second time with FF during the same browser session, then the page loads at normal speed.

If I then close Firefox and then open it again and visit Google News, it is back to 6 seconds. Also, if I am logged into my Google account then FF will load Google news at normal speed on its first encounter. I'd rather stay logged out. The other browsers load it at normal speed on first encounter logged in or out.

The Google news page I am referring to is:

https://news.google.com/?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en

It can also be accessed via: news.google.com.

To see the issue:

1. Make sure you are logged out of your Google account if you have one.

2. Close your FF browser completely using File/Exit.

3. Open FF, then go to: https://news.google.com/?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en

It should load in 1 to 2 seconds tops. Try any other browser to see how fast it should load. For me with FF it is 5-6 seconds. There is a lag.

If I keep browser open and visit Google News again, it will load in 1-2 seconds like all other browsers do on their first encounter.

If I close FF again, open it, then visit Google news again, it is back to 5-6 seconds.

Things I've tried to fix it:

1. Restarted with add ons disabled/Safe Mode, Cleared cookes/cache

2. FF refresh

3. Completely untouched new profile with default settings and no addons via firefox.exe - p

System Info:

Broswer: FF 60.0.2 64bit

OS: Windows 10 Home Version 1803 Build 17134.112

Note: I have seen this behavior on a few different model laptops. Also, I'm not sure when it started. I seem to recall that the page loaded pretty fast in FF in the past just like in all other browsers.

Thanks for any ideas.

Just giving an update... Google News is now loading fine on Firefox for me. It is behaving normally now meaning it loads in a second or two logged in or out any time I go to the site. I don't know what changed to make it work but after not having tested it for a while, I see that it works normally now. Thanks.

No problem just loading google news as stated. It loads right away. And connection and load time is also depend on your ISP bandwidth as well.

I have 200 mbps up and 20 mbps down one device when tested so I don't think that is the issue. The behavior is also 100% consistent (on different laptops) and only happens the way I describe and happens all the time. And it only happens on the Google News website. Other browsers don't have this problem. It's not the end of the world it is just odd.

I figured it out!

Edited: I'm wrong it didn't fix it.

Tried second time today again and opens fine. Opened one page and then open another tab with the same link and both load without issues...

Maybe it's something with Windows 10 - don't know what OS you use. I've tried this on a few Win 10 laptops and its always same exact behavior. For now I'm leaving myself logged into G so I don't experience the lag. Thank you for checking.
