Disable data reporting in Firefox 67
How can I *completely* disable data reporting in Firefox 67? Prefs which used to work have no effect in FF 67.
Thank you.

The Firefox Data Collection and Use section of the Firefox settings page contains the appropriate options.
Hope this helps.
Those settings are not enough. Deleting the datareporting folder, it's recreated after launching FF.
The datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled
is the kill-switch for Firefox Health Report and Firefox Telemetry. Setting that to false
will disable all of that.
The datareporting folder will still be rebuilt each time that you start Firefox, but that is not an indication that Firefox is submitting any data. That folder contains local data reporting content that is used by features such as about:healthreport
, so you cannot prevent this from being created.
However, the Firefox Data Collection and Use settings and the above about:config
entry will stop that data from being shared with Mozilla.
Hope this helps.
That is my question. Prior to FF 67 the datareporting folder would not be recreated.
I appreciate your help.
To the best of my knowledge, you can't disable the creation of that folder. It contains stuff that is automatically generated, such as your unique client ID. It also makes it so that a user can later decide to start sharing data without Firefox having to generate this content from scratch.
For reference, see bug 1195552.
Thanks again. I appreciate it.
It used to stay deleted, not any more. I have set all available about:config options to false, in regard to data reporting and toolkit telemtry, and the folder still reappears. i have also set the Privacy & Security settings to take care of what is reported, so that is not the issue. i want to stop the creation of the datareporting folder as it greatly reduces FF speed. Please tell me how to get rid of the data reporting folder - permanently. thanks!
You cannot disable the creation of that folder.
and why not? it WAS possible before this latest update. updates that removesmore that were once adjutable per the user are very frustrating
You can try these pref settings on the about:config page. Note that this won't prevent creating the datareporting folder.
/* DATEREPORTING */ datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled = false datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled = false datareporting.healthreport.service.enabled = false
/* TELEMETRY */ toolkit.telemetry.archive.enabled = false toolkit.telemetry.rejected = true toolkit.telemetry.server = "" (leave blank)
As I explained above, the datareporting contains some local information like your client ID for example. This has been the case since at least Firefox 40. It's just so that the information doesn't need to be created from scratch again.
See bug 1195552 for more information.
Provided you have the datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled
preference set to false
, the information isn't actually being uploaded to Mozilla. And provided you don't keep deleting the folder and forcing Firefox to rebuild the data contained within it, having that folder will have negligible impact on your Firefox performance.
