I eventually upgraded from a validated Win7 to a Win10 which now has a validated digital licence. Everything seems to have worked and my Win7 programs are working in Win10 EXCEPT Firefox 68.2.0 ESR. It would start (though not easily) but wouldn't launch anythhing, even about:config. I reinstalled using the exe installer. I tried everything I could find online. Nothing fixed it. Finally, I thought I'd uninstall again and try the msi installation of - IT WORKED. I uninstalled and tried the exe installation again - and it DIDN'T WORK.

I'd prefer to use the exe installation as it lets me install in D: whereas the msi installs only in C:/programs - and it also feels wrong that the exe installer doesn't work.

Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

Installing the exe to the D:/ may be possible when using the "full installer" (from the all download page) but the bulk of the files that Firefox creates upon installation will end up on the C:/ drive in the user/ ~ AppData/ directory. As Firefox is used the Roaming and Local sun-directories is where your data is saved AND that is the bulk of the files that Firefox uses. So, if you are running out of disk space on a partitioned drive, the Firefox program files are the least of your worries ...

Thank you. I understand what you are saying and I understand that Firefox puts most of its files on C:.

I didn't know about any "full installer" and will look for it, and try it.

I might say that I never had any trouble under Win7 installing with the exe installer and putting Firefox on D: - only now, using Win 10. And why is the msi installer behaving differently from the exe?

I suffer from a tidy mind. All my Windows files are on C: but I install all my user programs on D: - and I'd prefer my Firefox program to be on D:, too. I realise that it may not be possible but I'd certainly like to understand it.

You can use the full Firefox version to do a custom install and install Firefox on the D drive.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox release in all languages and all operating systems for Firefox 68.2.0 ESR:
