Hello, my Thunderbird performed yesterday ,9 November 2020, an automatic update to version 78.4.0 (from 68.12.1). Since then all my emails in my inbox and archive folders have disappeared. Also the archive folders with the submap structures are gone. Very annoying. I am not so experienced in trouble shooting. I have two hotmail accounts in use. So, I check on forums for a solution and one direction was to check the profiles in the help/problem solving tab. But it showed only two profiles for main and local. I checked in the AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Mail the Archives.sbd with all the subfolders still there. Then I changed in the account settings the link in the local map to the Archives.sbd. I don't know if this is the correct method, though but now something happened: It retrieved all emails from the hotmail server (hotmail inbox and also those in the hotmail subfolders) and it constructed some archive folders and some subfolders. So I am still missing half of my archived emails and have too many emails in my inbox. How can I fix this and why didn't the Thunderbird update smoothly take over the existing map structure from the previous version? Thanks in advance for your support. Best regards, René

PS: if any additional information is needed from me, please let me know. Thanks.

I didn't get any response on my problem, but I think I found the solution elsewhere in the forum in the answer on a question in October 2020 about corrupted profile. It was indicated that non-showing folders have the hidden attribute checked. So uncheck it and restart TB and the folder will appear. Apparently during the TB update to 78.4 these attributes were set automaticly? For sure it was not done by me. Hope this helps other users with similar problem? Best regards, René

It seems that, when scanning through other messages here, that several other users have the same issue after (automatic) update to 78.4.x TB. I really hope that someone has a solution how to retrieve the lost emails and folders. Best regards, René

Help... I have fallen and ...etc I was using "awesome autoarchives".. and there are archive files for years from 2000 to 2019..(approx) This addon is no longer supported or vice versa?

The new addon " autoarchive" seems to work... but how do I get all of these old files back into the active profile? I have read about unchecking the "hidden" box under attributes, but the files I could find don't seem to have that attribute set... THey are all in files such as archive.msf...

What must I do to retrieve them... Please.. simple answers...

Hello, I have never used autoarchives add-on so I cannot comment on that. What I found in my situation was that in the properties of the Archives.sbd map itself the hidden attribute was checked and I unchecked it (and all underlying files), restarted TB and the missing archive files appeared again like it was. Hope this helps.

Thank you, I found the problem I found the missing archive files in an older profile... I copied the missing ones (the old ones) to the new profile and they are all there... Thanks for helping, I had about 8 profiles to search through before I found them.. apparently one update in the recent past just ignored the old files? Anyway, a copy and reboot of TB and all is well again.

After the last update all of my inboxes, including defunct accounts, have gone from the 1000s to a mere few hundred and this has happened across all my different machines. The emails haven't been moved to the deleted folder and I don't have any archive files that they could be in, so where are they? I've read the previous posts and to be honest, I don't understand how the individuals have sorted the problem. This is not a slight on them, just say that 'I' don't understand.

HELP!

Hello, I also don't have so much experience in trouble shooting, but maybe you can check the properties of the maps in your profiles in C:\users\..\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Mail\your profile and rightclick and select Properties and see if the Hidden box is check. If so, uncheck it and when asked select for all underlying maps. Then restart TB. If it was not checked, maybe you can look at the properties of the underlying maps. Always need to restart TB to have effect. Hope this is of some help. Best regards, René

Hello crisp.sarah, please check my previous answer to martin.clift89. I think it explains what you are asking (look in Windows explorer or similar to find the AppData maps).

After checking my profile, I found "hidden" was unchecked so that wasn't the issue. What solved it for me was to de-select "Unread" as a search-filter flag. Once that was de-selected, all my archives and email returned.

I have the same issue, but not hidden folders. I see that in Thunderbirs>Profiles>xyxyxy.default>Mail I found double folders: old ones with giga of data, and new ones with last days data. How can I restore old folders? Thank you
